The chechia isn't just another accessory. Not only does it cover the heads of Muslim men, it also implies an act of worship. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned it in his Sunna. And whoever follows the prophetic tradition with the aim of attaining Allah's pleasure is rewarded in the best of ways.

In the time of the Prophet ﷺ, believers wore it. In particular, it was part of their style of dress and a means of differentiating themselves from non-believers. Covering one's head with a kufi, imama, or turban is part of the Sunna of our beloved prophet. This has been reported in several hadiths

In Imam Bukhari's Sahih, a hadith reported by Ibn Abbas states that the prophet wore a black turban when speaking to the sahabas. In another account, Ibn Umar reports that the Prophet often covered his head with a white hat. At-tabarani considers this account good, while As-Suyuti considers it authentic. In a hadith, the Prophet ﷺ notably stated:

"The distinction between us and the polytheist is the turban on our hats".

It's also worth remembering that the Muslim must differentiate himself from the disbelievers whether from a dogmatic point of view, in terms of acts of worship, but also concerning traditions. What's more, taking the Prophet as an example and knowing that he carried one should encourage us to do the same. Indeed, applying Muhammad's Sunnah to please Allah is an act of worship. And Allah rewards His servants according to their deeds. It's also worth remembering that many people consider wearing a chechia to be a mustahab. As such, it complements Muslim dress.

The chechia in all its forms

Orthographically speaking, the chechia can be written in different ways: chachiya, chachia. It can also be referred to by other words, such as Taguiya. This is made possible by the richness of the Arabic language.
